WBUL had the privilege to be guests at OneRepublic's Orlando stop of the Dreaming Out Loud Tour. The band is riding a huge wave of success from their debut album and has been touring non stop for the past 9 months. Monday's show was a rescheduled performance because the band was performing on the finale of American Idol. Up and coming Jason Reeves opened the show with a very solid set. OneRepublic began their set just before 10:00 PM in front of 1,700 screaming fans. They played a few songs including radio hit Stop and Stare and then lead singer Ryan Tedder spoke to the crowd. He explained that his noticeable lack of mobility was die to an Achilles injury which had him in a large plastic cast. He still managed to make due and the band rolled through a 90 minute set. They covered all their hits including Apologize, All We Are. and Mercy. They even threw in a few covers of some oldies.
This was the second time that I have been able to see OneRepublic perform and I think they are truly amazing live. Often they are compared to rock mega stars Coldplay. This is not a bad comparison for them. Tedder's piano playing skills are exhibited in nearly every one of the bands songs. Currently the only downfall in my opinion would be the bands lack of original tracks to choose from. I think they are one or two studio albums away from being able to headline an arena tour. This is why I would suggest trying to catch up with them before this tour of intimate locations wraps up. The House of Blues in Downtown Disney is a premier venue for intimate shows. They will be hitting HOB locations all over the country before the tour wraps up. It will be great to see what direction the bands second studio album takes them in. WBUL would like to thank the House of Blues Orlando for having us as their guests to this show.
