Talib Kweli first made a name for himself rhyming along side Mos Def on Rawkus Records' 1998 landmark release Black Star. Now with an established career, Talib's latest record is Eardrum, released on July 24,2007. It is his first album on his own Blacksmith label, operating under Warner Bros. Records.
Eardrum is food for the senses. His first single, the Kwame-produced Listen, is amazing to say the least. Some critics find Talib's music hard to listen to because of the lyrical intensity he packs into each bar. But, I feel that his style is an acquired taste. My personal favorite on the album is Country Cousins ft. UGK and Raheem Devaughn. Everyman and More or Less are his purest and most natural tracks.
In The Mood, which features Kanye West and Roy Ayers, is lyrically amazing: "Far as music go yo, it ain't no outlets, so / When I go out, [expletive] always out to get me in the studio / And I ain't in the mood to flow / I'm with my girl and I'm tryin' to hit the movies yo / And they tryna act stupid, oh! / In the club with Silicone Suzie / What happened to real girls like Rudy?/ With real [expletive] like Tooty / This girl got a silicone booty! / And got the nerve to act moody! / Now I ain't tryin to judge like Judy / But bitch you a man, you can't fool me! / Act like Fifty, throw her in a pool G..."
I don't know what else to say about this album that doesn't speak for itself. If you don't have this album, GET IT!, GET IT!, GET IT! RATE: 4.9 of 5 ( Highest review rating ever!)
