USF Women's Basketball WNIT Champions

Lawrence, Kan. - The University of South Florida Women's Basketball team are WNIT champions after beating the University of Kansas 75-71 Saturday afternoon. The victory gives the school its first postseason championship of any kind.

Jazmine Sepulveda led the way with 18 points, and Shantia Grace chipped in with 16. USF (27-10) was able to survive a late Kansas run and won their third straight road game to win the tournament. Jessica Lawson scored 13 points and had a key free throw in the final minute to put the game out of reach.

Daniel McCray was the leading scorer for Kansas (22-14) with 24 points. She scored a tournament record 147 points. Sade Morris added 19 points for the Jayhawks.

The Bulls had a 65-53 lead with under six minutes to play in the ball game after junior guard Janae Stokes hit a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired. Kansas followed with a 13-2 run that would bring them within one. Senior center Jessica Lawson scored the next four points a jumper and two free throws. The Bulls never looked back.

The two teams played in front of 16,113 fans, the largest crowd in Big 12 history.
