Derrick Stultz (8-1) scattered four hits through six shutout innings of work, but exited the game with a blister after starting the seventh with a full count to Stanley Paul.

The Huskies again failed to capitalize on a solid outing from their starter, as sophomore lefty Anthony Marzi (2-7) threw the full eight innings, allowing three runs - only one of which was earned - on seven hits.

The Bulls got all three of their runs with two outs in the fifth.

With one down, Andrew Longley doubled to left-center, and Kyle Teaf followed with a single to right to set up runners at the corners. Anthony Diaz, making just his second start of the season, then struck out for out number two.

Zac Gilcrease followed with an infield single that scored Longley, giving USF the 1-0 lead. Alex Mendez and Luis Llerena each hit grounders that were misplayed by UCONN second baseman LJ Mazzilli for his 15th and 16th errors of the season. The latter error allowed both Teaf and Gilcrease to cross the plate.

Six of the Bulls' seven hits on the evening came from the bottom half of the order. Longley and Gilcrease led the way, each finishing 2-for-3.

Gonzalez entered in relief of Stultz in the seventh and allowed a single to Paul, but that was quickly erased when Gonzalez got Joe Pavone to ground into a 5-4-3 double play. The Bulls' lefty would allow just one more hit - a single to Ryan Fuller in the ninth - in his three innings of work on his way to picking up his second save.

USF (15-8, 32-18) has clinched a berth in the Big East Tournament, and stands two games back of first-place St. Johns with just four conference games remaining. The Bulls will go for the sweep of UCONN (14-9, 27-23) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in what will be the Bulls final home game of the season.
