Originating from Austin, Texas, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead made a trip overseas to Germany to record their new EP. On Lost Songs, Trail of Dead’s lyrics range from tyranny, war, human trafficking and references to the show "Game of Thrones." Although Trail of Dead is known for their artful and theatrically orchestrated music on past albums, they shy away from over the top productions this time. Combining a blend of alternative, prog, and punk music all in one gives a more stripped-down version. Lost Songs is a quick listen with 12 songs while only consisting of one song over five minutes in length.

Some elements of other well-known bands can be picked out in some of their tunes. For example, “Opera Obscura”, is very rich in percussion and sounds just like a Jane’s Addiction breakdown, specifically “Ted, Just Admit It….” The galloping drums on the song make it the most diverse and theatrical on the disc. “A Place to Rest” has a chorus that sounds like a mash-up between Bullet for My Valentine and AFI which makes for an interesting combination.  Trail of Dead tries to reflect the apathy that the independent music scene has suffered from over the past decade in a few of their songs again recycling the rather gloomy motives of the album but the angriness that stirs from that sadness can be heard in the majority of the intense songs on the album.

Trail of Dead is currently touring around the U.S. and Canada but look to not be coming to the south at all, mainly staying in the California, New York, Philadelphia areas.
