Stands featuring a variety of locally grown edibles dotted Sessums Mall during a farmer's market on March 27.
The farmer's market has been held the last Tuesday of every month this semester, a tradition the hosting organization, Food Activists Revolutionizing Meals (FARM), hopes to make permanent. Before the routine, the markets were scheduled few and far between. The first one took place spring semester of 2011.
This farmer's market featured a large variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and other edibles like honey. The packages of blueberries offered at the market were picked that Sunday by FARM members themselves. It took the small group four hours to gather and package the berries at local Seeds of Love farm.
One tented stand was manned by Polk City farmer Mickey Davis. Not all of his wares were grown by him, but most of the fruits and vegetables were gathered in the Tampa area. The lettuce offered at this stand was grown using aquaponics.
