Tampa – The Bulls softball team won another thrilling game Friday night against the Cardinals of Louisville (46-11) 3-0 to advance to the Big East conference finals.
With another dominant performance in the circle for Sara Nevins, the Bulls (42-14) will ride into the conference title game having held opponents scoreless in the first two games of the tournament. Nevins pitched a complete game shutout while allowing just three hits, striking out four and walking only one.
The Bulls offense struggled in the first two innings as only one of the first seven batters reached base. Cardinals’ pitcher Rachel Le Coq was strong in the first two innings, inducing four groundouts and striking out two, but the Bulls would regroup and come alive in the third inning.
Bulls outfielder Ashli Goff singled to start off the inning. Two batters later, Kourtney Salvarola hit a double into deep right field to bring Goff around to score. Salvarola would finish 1-for-3 with one RBI.
D’Anna Devine and Stephanie Medina would both be walked to load up the bases for Kenshyra Jackson. She would hit a line drive single to bring around Salvarola and Devine to make the score 3-0. Jackson finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI.
The Bulls will play the No. 1-seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish Saturday evening starting at 4 p.m. for the Big East Championship.
