TAMPA, FL - The series against the Villanova Wildcats started with a double header on Saturday and finished with a game on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls secured the series in the first two games but were still determined to play with heart and win on senior day.
The Bulls honored five seniors in a pregame ceremony: Laura Fountain, Gina Kafalas, Jessica Mouse, Alexis Nowell and Janine Richardson.
The Wildcats pulled away early in the second inning with one run and held the lead until the fourth where the Bulls would tie things up.
The Bulls took their first lead with a run in the fifth inning. Courtney Goff scored the leading run by taking a chance on a throw that sailed into left field by Villanova’s catcher.
In the seventh inning, the Wildcats would tie up the ball game on their last out but the Bulls were determined to go out on top.
Just when it seemed the game would be going into extra innings with two outs and a full count, Nowell answered with a jaw-dropping double to send Mouse home, an astonishing finale for the Bulls senior day.
USF is 44-8 overall and 16-3 in Big East play. They travel to New York next weekend to take on Syracuse (38-12, 15-4) in their last series before the Big East Championship.
