Tampa, FL - USF Men’s Basketball defeated Bowling Green in triple overtime 87-84 Friday evening.
Victor Rudd continued to lead the offense with 29 points and seven rebounds. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick (16 points and eight rebounds) and Martino Brock (18 points and seven rebounds) also helped support the Bulls.
The Bulls (7-3) finished the first half up by seven, 34-27.
The Falcons (5-6) though were able to catch up, and led 61-58 with just 10 seconds left. With time winding down, Rudd drained a clutch three-pointer to pull the teams even at 61 at the end of regulation.
In the first overtime, the Bulls’ Jawanza Poland played his role by contributing four points of his own, including a dunk within the first minute.
The Bulls pulled ahead 71-67 with 33 seconds left, but the Falcons were not done yet. Layups from Bowling Green’s Jordan Crawford and Austin Calhoun kept the game going, 71-71.
In overtime two, USF was able to get points within the first minute again with a layup by Fitzpatrick. Bowling Green responded immediately to tie it right back at 73-73. Down 78-75 with 28 seconds on the clock, the Bulls would again turn to Rudd, who delivered another game-tying three.
The third overtime found the teams again tied with just seconds left, this time 84-84. When it looked like another overtime was in store, Bowling Green’s Richaun Holmes committed a foul allowing the Bulls an opportunity at the free throw line, and Rudd converted to seal the victory.
USF will play again this Saturday hosting George Mason at the Sun Dome at 6:30 p.m. The Bulls are 6-2 this season at home.
