USF Upsets No. 20 West Virginia

The USF Bulls defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers 30-19, eliminating any chance of a three-peat of their 2007 and 2008 seasons’ three game losing streaks.

In the opening drive, the Mountaineers (6-2, 2-1) managed to march across an 80-yard span in 11 plays. Jarrett Brown rushed for a 3-yard touchdown giving West Virginia its only lead throughout the night.

The Bulls answered the Mountaineers opening drive with a five play, 60-yard drive. The Bulls (6-2, 2-2) took some risks early in the game, going for a fourth-and-2 yard conversion, instead of punting. Moise Plancher was able to convert the play into a first down. The risk paid off, because in the next play Carlton Mitchell caught a 49-yard pass from B.J. Daniels in the end zone to tie the game 7-7.

Klotz's Late Goal Propels USF in Big East Tourney

USF SOCCER STADIUM - The USF women's soccer team advanced to the next round of the Big East Tournament on a late goal by Chelsea Klotz. The Bulls defeated DePaul 1-0.

A poor kick by DePaul goalkeeper Claire Hanold set up a one-on-one breakaway for Klotz, who beat Hanold and placed it in the far back corner of the net.

The game was a defensive battle with very few scoring chances for either team. The Bulls had six shots on goal and DePaul had only four. Turnovers played a key role in the game as neither team was able to gain momentum or create many offensive opportunities. Both defenses played strong and allowed very little penetration throughout the game.

USF Football Looks to Get Back on Track

Two years ago the University of South Florida Football team was ranked No. 2 in the nation going into a Thursday night road game against Rutgers, before losing. Last year they made it to No. 10 before losing on a Thursday night home game to Pittsburgh. This past Thursday they put their undefeated recorded on the line again. USF was ranked No. 21 and Cincinnati, No. 8 and they lost. USF has seen this movie before.

The Bulls (5-1, 1-1) look to get back on track this week as they go on the road to play Pittsburgh (6-1, 3-0) at Noon on Saturday. Red-shirt freshman quarterback B.J. Daniels is confident that the season is not over yet, but he knows that it will not be easy for the Bulls to get a win at Pitt.

“They're physical, they're big and very competitive,” said Daniels.
