Are We Human or is this The Killers Concert?

The Killers rocked the USF Sundome Friday night (October 2nd). The grammy award winning boys from Vegas stopped by Tampa as part of their The Road Ahead or The Road Travelled tour.

The evening started with a performance from alternative-indie band Chairlift. The Brooklyn based band performed a thirty minute set that included “Bruises”, which was recently featured on an iPod Nano commercial for apple. Their sound and performance was the cliché performance expected from an up and coming indie band, and the acoustics of the Sundome did not really help their sound. Their set sounded like a mixture of “trippy” and inarticulate sounds. The opening was not as good as other opening acts that have hit the Tampa Bay scene, but it was certainly a good way to open up for one of America's most well known bands.

Back Together and Better Than Ever: Blink 182 Concert Review

blink_2.jpg
The weather was hot and humid, smoke filled the air, and thousands of teens and adults alike screamed at the top of their lungs. This was the scene Sunday night (Sept. 27) at the Ford Amphitheatre, as Blink 182 took Tampa Bay by storm as part of their US Summer Tour. Before Blink 182 took the stage, three other bands performed short, thirty to forty five minute sets to warm up the crowd and set the mood for one of the best concerts to hit the Tampa Bay scene. The night started around six o'clock with “I Love College” rapper Asher Roth. Roth's set was one of the shortest sets between the four bands, and it was clear why. Roth's set consisted of the popular “I Love College” song with a couple of additional, lesser known songs. Most of his set sounded repetitive and included lyrics and remixes of the “I Love College” song.

Green Day stands against time

90's rock band Green Day took the St. Pete Times Forum stage on Monday August 3rd in front of 8,000 loyal fans for their 21st Century Breakdown Tour. After an opening performance from British band The Kaiser Chiefs in which lead singer Ricky Wilson announced the release of their new album, Green Day took the stage. With a sign at the entrance warning concert goers that the show would continuously use pyrotechnics and strobe light effects, there was no doubt that this would be one of the best concerts the Tampa Bay Area has seen in a while.

Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" to hit stores November 23rd

Guns N' Roses' latest sweet album o’ mine will soon be on shelves. The long-anticipated Chinese Democracy is set to be released on November 23rd, 2008. This is their first album since 1991's Use Your Illusion I and II.

There is a lot of pressure for the band's 6th studio offering to live up to high standards set by eager fans. Frontman Axl Rose has been producing Chinese Democracy in the San Fernando Valley for more than a decade with a lineup that few fans of classic Guns N' Roses are likely to recognize.

Concert review: Counting Crows and Maroon 5

adam_duritz.jpg

On Friday night, Maroon 5 and Counting Crows descended upon the Ford Amphitheatre for a night of spectacle and feel-good music. After opening band Augustana performed a short, yet polished set that peaked with their crowd favorite “Boston,” Maroon 5 took to the stage and offered up Adam Levine’s raspy vocals, raw energy and sex appeal. Strutting the stage in tight black jeans and a white T, Adam fired the crowd up by belting out the lyrics to the groups hit “Harder to Breathe.” A psychedelic light show played behind the band and spiraling lasers danced upon the ceiling of the amphitheatre as Adam switched manically between pacing enthusiastically around the stage and manning the guitar.
